Ranting and Raving!

I know most of you know that I'm going to school for Fashion Design. If all else fails, I at least want to teach art/fashion design. So, I was lucky enough to have scoured my community college's catalog and found, to my surprise, a fashion illustration class offered. Not for credit, mind you, but for my education nonetheless. I jumped at the opportunity and had my first class this COLD COLD Saturday morning. Now, after going to class, meeting my teacher, my fellow classmates, I fell in love. THIS IS WHAT COLLEGE SHOULD BE! Taking classes that you love and that spark your interest. After leaving the class, I was so inspired. More inspired than I have been in a long time by a class. So it got me thinking, 'Why isn't college like this at first?' I mean it wasn't for me at least. I spent alot of time and money taking classes that I had to take before I could take classes that I need to take classes for what my major was. It's insane. I mean, did I really need Statistics or Biology to get my Associates of Arts degree. Did I really need Government 1 and 2 to get my certificate for teaching Preschool? I mean, it gets discouraging when you have to take boring class after boring class of things that don't interest you. I understand taking History and English and basic Math and a basic Science but that should be as far as it goes. I shouldn't have to take 2 semesters of History unless I want to be a History major. Am I wrong? I'm starting to think that the government and Education Board or whatever, puts those rules in play to make money. Albeit, I did change my major a couple of times but it was because the prerequisites to the prerequisites were so discouraging. If I failed Government, because I was bored out of my mind, I HAD to take it again just to be able to graduate with an Arts Degree. Or at one point, I wanted to be a Dental Hygienist and I had to take pointless classes to just get to take Anatomy and Physiology. My point is, after changing major after major and taking boring classes for 6 years, I FINALLY get to take the classes that I love. I'm in an Arts History class, a Design class and a Fashion Design class and I couldn't be happier. I actually enjoy going to class to see what we get to learn and do next. I think if the Education Board, or whoever, would change the Core classes you have to take before you can graduate, there'd be alot more graduating students and alot less students who give up on college. I know there are some people who are EXTREMELY determined and they will do what it takes to get what they want but then there are some of us that just aren't interested in doing things that don't really mean anything us or that don't really speak to us. The classes I'm taking have awakened my creativity and imagination and I'm more than excited to work on HOMEWORK and do to projects weeks before they are due. I mean, isn't that what learning is supposed to be like? I guess I just had an epiphany during my Fashion Illustration class that I felt compelled to rant about my wasted years in college. Although, like I said, I did change my major more than once and that's no one's fault but my own, I will go on record to say that taking classes that had nothing to do with what I was interested in, did play a role.

Left my head and my heart at school!

Ay, school. It's officially started and although I'm taking classes I'm extremely interested in, it still means hard work and dedication are in need. Finished my first project for 2D Design class and got picked to have my project put on display at my school! I've been telling everyone and anyone who will listen. Ha. In short, this is why my posts have been lacking lately. They will get better I promise. I am taking classes Mon thru Thurs and even Saturday. But, I need to get this done and it's not all horrible, I love the classes I'm taking, I'm just not used to so much demand. Anyways, here are some pictures I managed to squeeze in this week. Enjoi!
