OH MY!

Is it summer yet??? I haven't posted in ages! Sorry about that. I've been so busy with school and work and personal things that this sometimes get put on the back burner. . . WELL NO MORE! I forgot how theraputic writing can be. Ah, so much has happened. Well, first it's finally getting warmer and I couldn't be more excited. Second, it's Spring Break now :P so no late nights at school for a week! I'm not doing anything of course, saving money to visit England in the summer, which I just purchased my ticket for and I don't think I've ever spent soooo much money on one item except for when I bought a car! But it will be worth it. Third, work is picking up, very busy time, had to hire on more peeps! :) Fourth, I think I spend more money on hangers for all the clothes I buy than on gas! Ha, jk but seriously every time I do laundry, I need more hangers.... and I tried just not hanging up my clothes but that ended up with me sleeping on the couch as my clothes took over my bed. So, my point is I finally hung up all my clothes well most, I need more hangers. Fifth, went to the Shirin Askari Fashion Debut! My first fashion show and I loved it! Shirin is soooo talented and her collection blew me away. Very proud of my fellow former UNT peer. Sixth, I have been taking 2D design and have so far done 4 projects, 2 of which got put on display at my school. :) I guess I am talented. Ha. Phew, anything else? Not that I can remember right now. I finally took some pix of new summer clothes I bought, I'm hoping the sun will see my impatience and stay out more often. The trends I found were maxi dresses, polka dots EVERYWHERE and jumpers! I love love love jumpers! So, below are some pix of my Victoria's Secret swimsuit and my Target jumper, flower maxi dress and sun hat! Enjoi!

Ranting and Raving!

I know most of you know that I'm going to school for Fashion Design. If all else fails, I at least want to teach art/fashion design. So, I was lucky enough to have scoured my community college's catalog and found, to my surprise, a fashion illustration class offered. Not for credit, mind you, but for my education nonetheless. I jumped at the opportunity and had my first class this COLD COLD Saturday morning. Now, after going to class, meeting my teacher, my fellow classmates, I fell in love. THIS IS WHAT COLLEGE SHOULD BE! Taking classes that you love and that spark your interest. After leaving the class, I was so inspired. More inspired than I have been in a long time by a class. So it got me thinking, 'Why isn't college like this at first?' I mean it wasn't for me at least. I spent alot of time and money taking classes that I had to take before I could take classes that I need to take classes for what my major was. It's insane. I mean, did I really need Statistics or Biology to get my Associates of Arts degree. Did I really need Government 1 and 2 to get my certificate for teaching Preschool? I mean, it gets discouraging when you have to take boring class after boring class of things that don't interest you. I understand taking History and English and basic Math and a basic Science but that should be as far as it goes. I shouldn't have to take 2 semesters of History unless I want to be a History major. Am I wrong? I'm starting to think that the government and Education Board or whatever, puts those rules in play to make money. Albeit, I did change my major a couple of times but it was because the prerequisites to the prerequisites were so discouraging. If I failed Government, because I was bored out of my mind, I HAD to take it again just to be able to graduate with an Arts Degree. Or at one point, I wanted to be a Dental Hygienist and I had to take pointless classes to just get to take Anatomy and Physiology. My point is, after changing major after major and taking boring classes for 6 years, I FINALLY get to take the classes that I love. I'm in an Arts History class, a Design class and a Fashion Design class and I couldn't be happier. I actually enjoy going to class to see what we get to learn and do next. I think if the Education Board, or whoever, would change the Core classes you have to take before you can graduate, there'd be alot more graduating students and alot less students who give up on college. I know there are some people who are EXTREMELY determined and they will do what it takes to get what they want but then there are some of us that just aren't interested in doing things that don't really mean anything us or that don't really speak to us. The classes I'm taking have awakened my creativity and imagination and I'm more than excited to work on HOMEWORK and do to projects weeks before they are due. I mean, isn't that what learning is supposed to be like? I guess I just had an epiphany during my Fashion Illustration class that I felt compelled to rant about my wasted years in college. Although, like I said, I did change my major more than once and that's no one's fault but my own, I will go on record to say that taking classes that had nothing to do with what I was interested in, did play a role.

Left my head and my heart at school!

Ay, school. It's officially started and although I'm taking classes I'm extremely interested in, it still means hard work and dedication are in need. Finished my first project for 2D Design class and got picked to have my project put on display at my school! I've been telling everyone and anyone who will listen. Ha. In short, this is why my posts have been lacking lately. They will get better I promise. I am taking classes Mon thru Thurs and even Saturday. But, I need to get this done and it's not all horrible, I love the classes I'm taking, I'm just not used to so much demand. Anyways, here are some pictures I managed to squeeze in this week. Enjoi!

You're in!

If I was on Project Runway, I would definitely get an A for effort but an F in execution. But you learn as you go along as my boyfriend so sweetly put it when I told him I finished but not the way I wanted. So, I'm doing another. In an Indian Sari inspired fabric. Very pretty light purple and gold. The fabric above was extremely hard to work with as it was very silky and soft. But I finished, which was my main objective and now I'm going to try again. :) Anyways, enjoy and hopefully I will have more pictures up of the new project!

I'm on fire. A fire starter.

Well, thought I'd explain this one: This is one of my first projects of the year. A cute little camisole sleeper. Got the fabric from Fabrique Fabrics at $20 a yard (EEEK) but totally worth it. This fabric literally melts in my hand and I can't wait to feel it on my skin as I sleep. Probably the most comforable thing I've slept in, I'm sure. Anyways, these are the beginnings of the project. Got the bra cups made so far and now lining them with lingerie elastic. I tried to finish the whole thing last night but sewing silky fabric is sooo tiresome plus I wasn't feeling too well so I turned on KERA and watched a documentary about the intelligence of Chimpanzee's (incredibly interesting). Well, I will continue to post updates and then hopefully the finished product soon, school starts Tuesday and I have class every night MTWR so my goal is before I go to England in June. :) Got alot of projects for clothes to take with me to England. I want to look original and classic when I go so I've got a couple of classic sewing patterns for things like Shirt Dresses and the famous DVF wrap dresses wannabe. So stay tuned!

Style me!

So, I want to do it all. Designer, fashion editor, fashion journalist, stylist and creative director! I just have so many ideas brewing that its hard to know what to do. Well, at least for now, I can dream. Thanks to an awesome website called Looklet.com, I was able to dream and become a stylist for a photo shoot. I am addicted and below are just a few looks, and by few I mean 5 out of like 50. :D More to come.
